When choosing the appropriate bedroom lighting, you need to bear in mind that this room is supposed to be restful and quiet. The lighting rules for this room are as simple as possible: soft artificial evening light and dark at night. Therefore you need to avoid lit spots during the night as they can be very annoying.
To obtain a pleasant environment, the solution would be to combine multiple lighting sources, so that you have some main fixtures accompanied by ambient ones. In general, it is best to make sure the light is more discreet than it would be in the rest of the house and it always directed upward.
For the bedroom, you can find fixtures in a variety of forms and materials like glass, wrought iron, wood, paper and parchment.
Forms that are vertically oriented, warm and pale colors as well as straight lines, all have the gift of inducing sleep and relaxation, thus making the bedroom a very welcoming place.
In general, for the bedroom, you need three lighting sources:
- on the nightstand, for reading
- on the ceiling, the main source
- on a side wall, preferably near the wardrobe or the makeup table
The main lighting sources should be placed either in the center of the ceiling, or on its edges, so that light is evenly dispersed to all corners of the room. You can choose recessed spotlights on the ceiling or a simple fixture in the middle.
A simple and cheap solution would be a lighting fixture with a dimmer allowing you to adjust the desired intensity.
Regarding the reading lights, lamps with flexible rods are the ideal solution because they allow you to direct the light wherever you want.
To highlight any art object or paintings, we recommend creating a proper lighting scheme that includes special fixtures.
And don’t forget the candles – they are your ally for a more romantic environment.
